A full-service law firm in Mississauga

Gill & Alter Law has practised from Mississauga for more than four decades. The firm was built on a simple idea: a family or a business should not need a different lawyer for every legal moment in their life. The house closing, the will, the separation, the estate when a parent dies, the business incorporation, the dispute that will not settle. Law firms in Mississauga tend to pick one of those lanes. We kept all of them.

Two partners lead the practice, and their strengths cover opposite ends of the legal spectrum. One has litigated in Ontario courts since 1978 and sits as a Deputy Judge of the Ontario Small Claims Court. The other holds an LL.M. in tax law from Osgoode Hall and runs the business, corporate, and tax side. Between the two, a client’s legal life rarely needs to leave the building.

The firm works from two offices, one in Mississauga and one in Burlington, and serves clients across Mississauga, Brampton, Oakville, Burlington, Milton, Hamilton, Brantford, and Toronto.

Why people in Mississauga call this firm first

01

Practising here since 1978

The firm has worked from Mississauga for more than four decades, through every version of this housing market and several rewrites of Ontario estate law. That length of practice is the credential. It is also why a matter that touches property, family, and an estate at once does not need three separate firms.

02

Depth at both ends of the table

Court experience measured in decades on one side, an LL.M. in tax law on the other. Few law firms in Mississauga, Ontario carry senior litigation judgment and technical tax depth in the same office, and plenty of matters need both at once.

03

Straight answers before any commitment

The first conversation tells you what kind of matter you have, what the process looks like, and what we would do first. When the honest advice is that you do not need a lawyer, that is what you hear.

What to expect

Tell us what is going on

Phone the office or book online. Explain the situation in whatever words come naturally. Nobody expects you to arrive knowing the legal category.

A straight assessment

We name the matter, lay out the road ahead, and flag the deadlines already in motion. Plain English the whole way.

A plan you understand

Steps, sequence, what we need from you, and how the work will be handled. You approve the plan before the work begins, not after.

The work gets done

Files move, closings complete, documents get signed, disputes get pushed to a resolution. Updates come in plain language at every stage, until the file is closed.

Reviews

ANGEL PARC INC.

"Shivraj helped me out when no other lawyer would! He never once made it about the money. Him and the law clerks were all very professional and kind. I don't mean to over share, but when your in a horrible situation it's nice to be shown some grace!! and that's exactly what happened when I there. If your looking for an honest law-firm with people who actually care, I highly recommend this place!"

God's Property

"I had the pleasure of meeting Alex and Shivraj to do a Will signing. Upon visiting the office, I was greeted with a warm smile from Alex who took me to see Shivraj to review and sign off on the Will. The office is brightly lit and in a central location. It was easy to find with lots of on-site parking. Alex and Shivraj are very friendly and easy to speak with and both answered all my questions. I did not feel rushed to leave or got the impression I was asking too many questions. Once the meeting was over, they both walked me out and I headed home. I would definitely recommend the firm."

"This was a very trying and emotional time in my life. A time when you feel all alone in this world. From the moment I met Alex, I felt as if I was treasured and respected. But then I was introduced to Shrivraj, that experience was like a brotherly kind of love relationship. Together, I would trust them with my life secrets. Professionally, I would close my eyes and recommend this team to any and every one who needs representation. A heartfelt thanks to Shrivraj and Alex."

"Shivraj is an excellent lawyer who is knowledgeable, responsive, and highly professional. He pays close attention to detail, communicates clearly, and approaches every matter with care and precision. His dedication and practical advice make him someone I would confidently recommend to anyone seeking trusted legal representation."

Common questions for a Mississauga law firm

In Ontario, every licensed lawyer is called to the bar as both a barrister and a solicitor. Barrister refers to courtroom work, arguing cases before judges. Solicitor refers to office work, contracts, wills, real estate closings, and legal advice. The title on our door, barristers and solicitors, means the firm does both, and has since 1978.

Real estate, family law, wills and powers of attorney, probate and estate administration, estate litigation, civil and commercial litigation, personal injury, wrongful dismissal, debt collection, separation agreements, and tax, business, and corporate law. If your matter falls outside that range, we tell you quickly and point you somewhere reliable.

Mississauga and Burlington. Full office details are in the footer of this page, and 905-458-1148 reaches both locations. Most matters can be handled through either office, and a good portion of the work happens by phone, email, and video regardless.

Mississauga is home, and clients come from across the western GTA: Brampton, Oakville, Burlington, Milton, Hamilton, Brantford, and Toronto. For most legal work, the file matters far more than the postal code.

Fees depend on the type of matter, and we explain the structure before you commit to anything. Real estate and wills typically run on a known basis. Litigation depends on the fight. Either way, the conversation about cost happens at the start, in plain terms, and never as a surprise partway through.

No. Describing the situation is enough, and matters often cross categories anyway. A separation involves a house. An estate involves a business. Because this firm practises across all of it, you will not be bounced between specialists to get one matter handled.
